“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”… And ours began with a simple meal.
In Summer 2015, we gathered again to share Iftar with the local community during the holy month of Ramadan in the less privileged districts of Jeddah. We noticed that their conditions weren’t getting better after all these years!! And the real question was, how can we use our Architectural education to empower the local community?
Education was the solution, as it is the most sustainable cause that would serve the largest group of beneficiaries. This was the starting point of our first initiative, a school renovation in AlJameah District, following the saying “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach him how to fish and you feed him for his lifetime”… And we’re all hopes that the impact will not stop there, and that these children will have the power to serve their community and continue the cycle of giving.
After renovating the first school during summer vacation, the emotions of joy from the students and teachers were the main incentive for us to continue the journey for another 5 years. We faced many challenges throughout the way, but the outcome after every project refuelled our passion and made everything worth it.
2020 was a turning point, after our efforts were crowned by winning King Khalid’s Award, our responsibilities grew and we started working on developing and sustaining the initiative. A decision was reached to develop Ihyaa from being a volunteering initiative to a social enterprise.
By God’s will, we are continuing with the same goals and values and would like you to take part in the next chapter of Ihyaa’s story…
